In 1984, Sai Kishore, a first-generation entrepreneur from Tamil Nadu, initiated computer education in schools, introducing computer-aided instruction (CAI). His breakthrough occurred in 1999 when the Tamil Nadu government awarded him the contract to implement IT education in all districts through government schools, extending computer education to rural areas.
He revolutionized medical education in Tamil Nadu and established India’s first ‘virtual classrooms’ in 2002 through Everonn. Recognized by President Abdul Kalam, Everonn went public in 2007, becoming India’s second-largest education group by 2010 with a market cap exceeding $400 million. In 2011, he led a $2.75 billion skill development project, later leaving Everonn and earning a spot on Forbes’ ‘Best under a Billion’ Asia List for building the world’s largest tech-based education network. By then, Everonn had educated 8.60 million students nationwide.
